Mardi Gras and Bal Masque
The San Clemente Rotary Club and the Foundation have banded together to present the Mardi Gras and Bal Masque at the Pacific Golf and Country Club on Saturday, February 2, 2008. This gala event is a fundraiser for the forthcoming LaPata/Vista Hermosa Community Park, which will contain a much-needed four soccer and three baseball fields and one football field, as well as an aquatic center. Featuring the JD PRIEST BAND, the dinner/dance requires that attendees wear a mask and a costume or formal attire for entry. There will be awards for best costumes, a silent auction, and lots of music and dancing. Tickets are $125 each and tax-deductable. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents of youth who will be using the new park to assist financially in making it a reality.

Surf & Skate Open Championships
On Saturday, September 20, the Foundation is sponsoring its 10th annual Skateboard Tournament at Steed Park, usually attracting up to 200 participants. The following day, for the first time, a Surfing Championship will be offered at the Pier Bowl. This athletically-integrated event provides desirable youth-oriented recreational opportunities specifically relevant to the character of our community, combining non-traditional athletic interests of its younger citizens in skate and surf boarding. With entrants in several age group categories, knowledgeable judges will determine winners, an experienced master-of-ceremonies will announce the events, and both City staff and Foundation volunteers will monitor all activities. Vendors of recreational equipment and event sponsors will display their wares and provide prizes. All incoming funds, after expenses, will be distributed to various City recreational programs.
