Cyber Café Photo Contest
By Bill Thomas
The creative output of local photo talent currently lines the walls of the San Clemente Parks Foundation art gallery located in one of the City’s former fire stations. Bob Lopina, the Foundation’s Cyber Café digital photography instructor, recently invited alumni of the classes he’s been conducting over the past five years to submit their best photos as a test of their pictorial expertise. “I’m truly amazed that we’ve developed so many terrific amateur photographers,” Lopina reported. “There were 70 submissions of which 50 were selected for contest judging purposes and 30 were hung in the gallery.” Judges volunteering to review these works included Norb Garrett, publisher of the San Clemente Times and
Don Kindred, publisher of the San Clemente Journal, both of whom are Foundation Directors, and George Gooch, professional photographer. All are well versed in evaluating photographic work. At a September 25th reception honoring the photo contestants, the Foundation awarded certificates to the six top finishers and cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25 to the top three selectees. First was Pat Chong; second, Doug Burt; and, third, Carol Davies. Jean Preish, Gayle Bower and Cindi Allen received “honorable mention” recognition. The beautiful array of photographs, including seascapes, portraits, florals, human interest, unique architectural structures, nature studies, and “moments of truth” may be viewed from Tuesday through Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1030 Calle Negocio.
